Business Process Automation at OJSC VimpelCom Using Oracle E-Business Suite. Support and update

Project Implementation

The project was launched on January 10, 2003, and 9 finance and logistics modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite began operating on January 5, 2004. The scope of the customized solution included financial management; accounting and reporting according to GAAP and Russian accounting standards; and order, purchasing, and inventory control. In future, there are plans to integrate the implemented ERP solution with the Amdocs Ensemble billing system already operating at OJSC VimpelCom.

Results Achieved

The result was automation of more than 500 jobs in the company. There are plans to duplicate this solution in 50 OJSC VimpelCom branches in the regions in future. The following company divisions are currently using the system:

• Financial control office; accounting: GAAP reporting department, dealer and roamer clearing department;
• Purchasing department, administration and support service, contract management service, inventory and logistics management service;
• Treasury: tax office, corporate finance department, customer settlement department, and financial risk management group.

The following achievements also stand out: increased “transparency” of the company’s activities; creation of a single information database and interconnection of all accounting subsystems (bookkeeping, taxation, statistics, and management); ability to prepare reports to GAAP standards for submission to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE); increased efficiency of the company’s mutual settlements with suppliers and customers; formation of centralized purchase order input; and warehouse inventory optimization. All of this has resulted in significant improvement of the company’s overall operation.
